Reading of the Torah

Synopsis

We hear about a tower of precious stone in the midst of other towers; it rises to the high firmament and is not yet visible. Upon it the head of the Yeshivah inscribed: "The name of Hashem is a strong tower: the righteous runs to it, and is safe." We are given an analogy whereby the tower is the ark in which the Torah scroll is kept. From here it is derived that the cantor of the synagogue must be righteous and of the form of the supernal righteous, Yesod, and that the sixth person called up to read the Torah must be righteous, as the sixth alludes to Yesod. We hear more marvelous details about the tower, and are told that in it there is a light in the form of a Torah scroll that will be read in the future by King Messiah. He will explain all the Torah matters to the students of the Yeshivah, and they will then be elevated to the Yeshivah of Metatron. We are told that no one could withstand seeing that Torah scroll except Messiah, as its letters are sparkling flames of four colors that are from a higher world.

137. (THE BEGINNING OF THE ARTICLE IS MISSING) these here and these there, since all are towers of precious stone. Among the towers, there is a tower of precious stone in its midst. That one reaches to the lofty firmament and is not visible at present, until that time when it will appear. The head of the Yeshivah saw it and inscribed on it above this verse: "The name of Hashem is a strong tower: the righteous runs to it, and is safe" (Mishlei 18:10). This scriptural verse was explained by the head of the Yeshivah this way: "A strong tower" refers to the Congregation of Yisrael, MEANING MALCHUT; "the righteous runs (Heb. yarutz) to it," MEANING THAT the desire of the Righteous, WHICH IS YESOD, is always for it. SINCE YARUTZ IS FROM THE SAME DERIVATION AS RATZON (ENG. 'DESIRE'), therefore, it is a tower of strength "and is safe," so that it will never AGAIN fall as it did.

137. אִלֵּין הָכָא וְאִלֵּין הָכָא. דְּאִינּוּן מִגְדָּלִין דְּאֶבֶן טָבָא כֻּלְּהוּ. בֵּין כֻּלְּהוּ מִגְדָּלִין אִית חַד מִגְדָּל דְּאֶבֶן טָבָא בְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא. וְדָא סָלִיק לְרוּם רְקִיעָא, וְלָא אִתְחֲזֵי הַשְׁתָּא, עַד הַהוּא זִמְנָא דְּיִתְגְּלֵי. רַב מְתִיבְתָּא חָמָא לֵיהּ, וַהֲוָה רָשִׁים בֵּיהּ לְעֵילָּא הַאי קְרָא, מִגְדָּל עֹז שֵׁם יְיָ' בּוֹ יָרוּץ צַדִּיק וְנִשְׂגַּב. וּפָרִישׂ רַב מְתִיבְתָא קְרָא דָּא, מִגְדָּל עֹז: דָּא כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל. בּוֹ יָרוּץ צַדִּיק: בֵּיהּ רְעוּתֵיהּ דְּצַדִּיק תָּדִיר. וע"ד, וְנִשְׂגַּב הַהוּא מִגְדָּל, דְּלָא יִנְפּוֹל לְעָלְמִין, כְּמָה דַּהֲוָה.

138. And Rabbi Cruspedai, who delights the heart, explained this scriptural verse before his death and explains it well. "A strong tower" is the ark, to insert in it the Torah scroll, which is strong, and to take it out of the chamber, which is in the form of the inner chamber. THAT IS THE SECRET OF IMA from which the Torah comes out, WHICH IS ZEIR ANPIN. That tower, WHICH IS THE ARK, is the name of Hashem and His form, MEANING MALCHUT, and it needs to have six steps, CORRESPONDING TO CHESED, GVURAH, TIFERET, NETZACH, HOD AND YESOD IN MALCHUT.

138. וְרִבִּי כְּרוּסְפְּדָאי חָמִיד לִבָּא, פָּרִישׁ הַאי קְרָא עַד לָא אִסְתַּלָּק, וּפָרִישׂ שַׁפִּיר. מִגְדָּל עֹז: דָּא תֵּיבָה, וס"ת דְּאִיהוּ עֹז, לְשַׁוָּאָה בֵּיהּ, וּלְאַפָּקָא לֵיהּ מִגּוֹ הֵיכָל, דִּיּוּקְנָא דְּהֵיכָל פְּנִימָאָה, דְּמִנֵּיהּ נָפְקָא תּוֹרָה, וְהַהוּא מִגְדָּל שֵׁם יְיָ' אִיהוּ, וּדְיּוּקְנָא דִּילֵיהּ וְאִצְטְרִיךְ בְּשִׁית דַּרְגִּין.

139. "The righteous runs to it." HE ASKS: To what WILL HE RUN? To the tower or the Torah scroll? HE RESPONDS: He explained this verse both ways, BOTH THE TOWER AND THE TORAH SCROLL. When he explained it as 'the tower,' the righteous one needs to be the cantor of the synagogue AND BE truly righteous and of the form of the supernal Righteous, THAT IS YESOD. When he explained it to mean 'the Torah scroll,' then whoever goes up to read the Torah should be righteous and be called righteous. Of all SEVEN THAT ARE CALLED UP TO THE READING OF THE TORAH, who is called righteous? THAT IS the sixth one to be called up for the reading among those seven, SINCE THE SIXTH READING PORTION ALLUDES TO YESOD THAT IS CALLED RIGHTEOUS. Rabbi Shimon said, Definitely, IT IS SO since RABBI CRUSPEDAI has always been called up to rise only for the sixth READING PORTION throughout his life, among the others who were also called for the reading OF THE TORAH. THAT WAS ALLUDING TO THE RIGHTEOUS, YESOD. "The righteous runs to it" MEANS THEN, the words of this righteous will run to the Torah scroll. HE ASKS: "And is safe" from whom? HE ANSWERS: From fearing the Angel of Death, since he shall have an extended life and he will never be hurt.

139. בּוֹ יָרוּץ צַדִּיק, בְּמַאן. בְּמִגְדַּל, אוֹ בס"ת. אֶלָּא קְרָא דָּרִישׁ בְּהַאי וּבְהַאי. כַּד דָּרַשׁ בְּמִגְדַּל, אִצְטְרִיךְ צַדִּיק דָּא דְּלִיהֱוֵי חֲזַן הַכְּנֵסֶת, זַכָּאָה דִּקְשׁוֹט, וּדְיּוּקְנָא דְּצַדִּיק עִלָּאָה. כַּד דָּרִישׁ לס"ת, מַאן דְּסָלִיק לס"ת לְמִקְרֵי אוֹרַיְיתָא, אִצְטְרִיךְ צַדִּיק. וְצַדִּיק אִקְרֵי. מַאן אִקְרֵי צַדִּיק מְכֻּלְּהוּ. שְׁתִיתָאָה, דְּסָלִיק מֵאִינּוּן שִׁבְעָה. א"ר שִׁמְעוֹן, וַדַּאי, דְּאִיהוּ לָא סָלִיק כָּל יוֹמוֹי, אֶלָּא שְׁתִיתָאָה לְאִינּוּן דְּסַלְּקִין. בּוֹ יָרוּץ צַדִּיק, בס"ת יָרוּץ דִּבְרֵי צַדִּיק דָּא. וְנִשְׂגַּב מִמַּאן. מִדְּחִילוּ דְּמַלְאָךְ הַמָּוֶת, דְּהָא אוֹרִיךְ יוֹמִין. וְנִשְׂגַּב דְּלָא יִתְנְזָק לְעָלְמִין.

142. Through the sweetness of his words and through desire, they are elevated TO THE HEAVENLY YESHIVAH. AND THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE TURNS AGAIN TO THE LISTENER AND SAYS TO HIM, All the ten points of the matters, THAT THE MESSIAH DEFINED, will be stored for you for that day of your petitions, MEANING FOR THAT DAY WHEN YOU WILL PRAY FOR IT.

143. When that tower stands in the middle of the court and that door is open, MEANING THE DOOR THAT IS IN THE CENTRAL COLUMN OF THE TOWER, the Cherubs open their mouths, and spread their wings. They illuminate with the higher light on that opening and that Torah scroll is open, and the Cherubim started to say: "Oh how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You..." (Tehilim 31:20). AFTER THAT, they close the doors and the Torah scroll is rolled up.

143. כַּד קַיְּימָא הַהוּא מִגְדָּל בְּאֶמְצָעוּ דַּעֲזָרָה, וּפִתְחָא דָּא פָּתַח, פָּתְחִין אִינּוּן כְּרוּבִין פּוּמַיְיהוּ, וּפַרְשֵׂי גַּדְפַּיְיהוּ, וְנָהִיר נְהִירוּ עִלָּאָה עַל הַהוּא פִּתְחָא. וְהַהוּא ס"ת פָּתִיחַ, וְאִינּוּן כְּרוּבִים פַּתְחֵי וְאַמְרֵי מָה רַב טוּבְךָ אֲשֶׁר צָפַנְתָּ לִּירֵאֶיךָ וְגוֹ.' סָגִירוּ פִּתְחִין, וס"ת אִתְגְּלִיל.
