In the time of Messiah

Synopsis

We are told what will happen at the time of Messiah when God is going to rebuild Jerusalem. The account presages the destruction of Rome and its ruler, and talks about many wars. The spirit of Messiah will destroy the enemies of Yisrael, and the righteous will be brought back to life. When the children of Yisrael leave their exile the Shechinah will go with them, and there will be great joy. At the time of redemption all blessings will freely flow to the righteous from the great deep springs of Chochmah and Binah.

501. "I behold it, but it is not near" (Bemidbar 24:17), because some of these matters came true at that time and some of them are for future times, in the period of King Messiah. We learned that the Holy One, blessed be He, will build Jerusalem and display a fixed star that sparkles with seventy moving PLANETS and with seventy winds that display light from it in the center of the firmament. Another seventy stars will be instructed and guided by it, and it will be glowing and blazing seventy days.

501. אֶרְאֶנּוּ וְלֹא עַתָּה, דְּהָא מִלִּין אִלֵּין מִנַּיְיהוּ אִתְקָיָּימוּ בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא, וּמִנַּיְיהוּ לְבָתַר, וּמִנַּיְיהוּ בְּזִמְנָא דְּמַלְכָּא מְשִׁיחָא. תְּנָן, זַמִּין קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לְמִבְנֵי יְרוּשָׁלַםִ, וּלְאַחְזָאָה חַד כֹּכָבָא קְבִיעָא, מְנַצְּצָא בְּע' רָהֲטִין, וּבְע' זִיקִין נַהֲרִין מִנֵּיהּ בְּאֶמְצָעוּת רְקִיעַ, וְיִשְׁתָּאֲלוּן בֵּיהּ ע' כֹּכָבִין אַחֲרָנִין, וִיהֵא נָהִיר וְלָהִיט ע' יוֹמִין.

502. On Friday, on the twenty-fifth day to the sixth month, the star will be seen. It will be gathered on the seventh day at the ending of the seventy days. IT WILL BE COVERED AND NOT SEEN. On the first day, it will be seen in the city of Rome and, on that day, three higher walls will fall from the city of Rome, and the great palace WHICH IS THERE will fall. The governor of that city will die. Then that star will spread and extend to be seen in the world. During that time, great and mighty wars will be stirring in the world to all four directions, and there will be no faith among them.

502. וּבְיוֹמָא שְׁתִיתָאָה, יִתְחֲזֵי בְּכ"ה יוֹמִין לְיַרְחָא שְׁתִּיתָאָה, וְיִתְכְּנִישׁ בְּיוֹמָא שְׁבִיעָאָה, לְסוֹף ע' יוֹמִין, יוֹמָא קַדְמָאָה יִתְחֲזֵי בְּקַרְתָּא דְּרוֹמָא. וְהַהוּא יוֹמָא יִנְפְּלוּן ג' שׁוּרִין עִלָּאִין מֵהַהִיא קַרְתָּא דְּרוֹמִי, וְהֵיכָלָא רַבְרְבָא יִנְפּוֹל, וְשַׁלִּיטָא דְּהַהִיא קַרְתָּא יְמוּת. כְּדֵין יִתְפָּשַּׁט הַהוּא כֹּכָבָא לְאִתְחֲזָאָה בְּעָלְמָא. וּבְהַהוּא זִמְנָא יִתְּעֲרוּן קְרָבִין תַּקִּיפִין בְּעָלְמָא, לְכָל ד' סִטְרִין, וּמְהֵימְנוּתָא לָא יִשְׁתְּכַּח בֵּינַיְיהוּ.

504. During the day when that star will be covered, the Holy Land will shudder and shake 45 miles around the area of the Temple, and a cave underneath the ground will be discovered. From that cave will emanate a fire to burn the world. And from that cave will grow one great lofty branch that will dominate over the entire world, and the kingdom will be granted to him. The most high saints will be gathering to him. Then, Messiah will be revealed in the entire world and the kingdom will be granted to him.

504. וּבְיוֹמָא דְּיִתְכַּסֵּי כֹּכָבָא, יִזְדַּעְזַע אַרְעָא קַדִּישָׁא מ"ה מִילִּין, סַחֲרָנֵיהּ אֲתָר דַּהֲוָה בֵּי מַקְדְּשָׁא. וּמְעַרְתָּא חֲדָא מִן תְּחוֹת אַרְעָא יִתְגְּלֵי. וּמֵהַהִיא מְעַרְתָּא יִפּוּק אֶשָּׁא תַּקִּיפָא לְאוֹקְדָא עָלְמָא. וּמֵהַהִיא מְעַרְתָּא יִסְגֵּי חַד עַנְפָּא, רַבְרְבָא עִלָּאָה, דְּיִשְׁלוֹט בְּכָל עָלְמָא, וְלֵיהּ אִתְיְהִב מַלְכוּתָא. וְקַדִּישֵׁי עֶלְיוֹנִין יִתְכַּנְּשׁוּן גַּבֵּיהּ. וּכְדֵין יִתְגְּלֵי מַלְכָּא מְשִׁיחָא בְּכָל עָלְמָא, וְלֵיהּ אִתְיְהִיב מַלְכוּתָא.

505. At the time of the revealing OF MESSIAH, the inhabitants of the world will find themselves in one distress after another and those who hate Yisrael will get stronger. Then the spirit of Messiah will stir against them, and will destroy the wicked Edom, and the entire land of Seir will go up in flames. Concerning that time, it is written: "And Yisrael shall do valiantly" (Bemidbar 24:18). That is the meaning of: "And Edom shall be his possession, Seir also, his enemies" (Ibid.), meaning the enemies of Yisrael. That is the meaning of: "And Yisrael shall do valiantly." At that time, the Holy One, blessed be He, will raise TO LIFE the dead of His people and remove death from them. This is what it says, "The right hand of Hashem does valiantly. I shall not die, but live" (Tehilim 118:16-17). It is further written: "And liberators shall ascend..." (Ovadyah 1:21) and then: "And Hashem shall be king" (Zecharyah 14:9).

505. וּבְנֵי עָלְמָא בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּיִתְגְּלֵי, יֵהוֹן מִשְׁתַּכְּחִין בְּעַקְתָּא בָּתַר עַקְתָּא. וְשַׂנְאֵיהוֹן דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל יִתְגַבְּרוּן, כְּדֵין יִתְּעַר רוּחָא דִּמְשִׁיחָא עָלַיְיהוּ, וִישֵׁיצֵי לֶאֱדוֹם חַיָּיבָא, וְכָל אַרְעָא דְּשָׂעִיר יוֹקִיד בְּנוּרָא. כְּדֵין כְּתִיב, וְיִשְׂרָאֵל עוֹשֶׂה חָיִל. הה"ד, וְהָיָה אֱדוֹם יְרֵשָׁה וְהָיָה יְרֵשָׁה שֵׂעִיר אוֹיְבָיו. אוֹיְבָיו דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. וּכְדֵין וְיִשְׂרָאֵל עוֹשֶׂה חָיִל. וּבְהַהוּא זִמְנָא, יָקִים קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לְמֵתַיָּיא דְּעַמֵּיהּ, וְיִתְנָשֵׁי מִנְּהוֹן מִיתָה, הה"ד יְמִין יְיָ' עֹשָׂה חָיִל. לֹא אָמוּת כִּי אֶחְיֶה. וּכְתִיב וְעָלוּ מוֹשִׁיעִים וְגוֹ.' וּכְדֵין וְהָיָה יְיָ' לְמֶלֶךְ.

506. Rabbi Aba said, What is the meaning of, "For you shall go out with joy" (Yeshayah 55:12)? It only means that, when Yisrael leave the exile, the Shechinah will leave with them. They will leave together with Her. This is the meaning of: "For you shall go out with joy" WITH THE SHECHINAH THAT IS CALLED 'GLADNESS.' "Joy" is referring to the Holy One, blessed be He. Rabbi Yitzchak said, That is referring to the Righteous, MEANING YESOD OF ZEIR ANPIN. This is the meaning of: "Joy and gladness shall be found in it" (Yeshayah 51:3), WHICH ARE YESOD AND MALCHUT.

506. א"ר אַבָּא, מַאי דִּכְתִּיב כִּי בְּשִׂמְחָה תֵצֵאוּ וְגוֹ.' אֶלָּא כַּד יִפְּקוּן יִשְׂרָאֵל מִן גָּלוּתָא, שְׁכִינְתָּא נָפְקָא עִמְּהוֹן, וְעִמָהּ יִפְּקוּן. הֲדָא הוּא דִּכְתִּיב, כִּי בְשִׂמְחָה תֵצֵאוּ. שָׂשׂוֹן דָּא קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא. ר' יִצְחָק אָמַר דָּא צַדִּיק. הֲדָא הוּא דִּכְתִּיב שָׂשׂוֹן וְשִׂמְחָה יִמָּצֵא בָהּ.

507. Rabbi Shimon said, The Righteous, THAT IS, YESOD OF ZEIR ANPIN, is called 'joy.' From that day onward, when the Congregation of Yisrael fell into the exile, the blessings were withheld from flowing down to the world from this Righteous. At that time OF REDEMPTION, it is written: "Therefore with joy shall you draw water" (Yeshayah 12:3). This refers to the Righteous CALLED 'JOY.' "Out of the wells of salvation" (Ibid.) refers to Aba and Ima, WHICH ARE CHOCHMAH AND BINAH, FROM WHERE THE YESOD DRAWS. Another explanation: "Out of the wells of salvation" IS REFERRING to Netzach and Hod, FROM WHOM YESOD RECEIVES. All RECEIVE from deep springs that flow, WHICH ARE CHOCHMAH AND BINAH. Then, it is written: "And in that day you shall say, Hashem, I will praise You..." (Ibid. 1), and: "Cry out and shout, you inhabitant of Zion..." (Ibid. 6).

507. אר"ש, צַדִּיק שָׂשׂוֹן אִקְרֵי. וּמִן יוֹמָא דִּכ"י נַפְלַת בְּגָלוּתָא. אִתְמְנָעוּ בִּרְכָּן מִלְּנַחְתָּא לְעָלְמָא מֵהַאי צַדִּיק. בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא מַה כְּתִיב, וּשְׁאַבְתֶּם מַיִם בְּשָׂשׂוֹן, דָּא צַדִּיק. מִמַּעַיְינֵי הַיְשׁוּעָה, אִלֵּין אַבָּא וְאִמָא. ד"א, אִלֵּין נֶצַ"ח וְהוֹ"ד. וְכֹלָּא מִמַּבּוּעֵי נְבִיעִין עֲמִיקִן. כְּדֵין וְאָמַרְתָּ בַּיוֹם הַהוּא אוֹדְךָ יְיָ' וְגוֹ,' צַהֲלִי וָרֹנִּי יֹשֶׁבֶת צִיּוֹן וְגוֹ.'
