"And he saw the place afar off"

Synopsis

As Abraham walks with Isaac to the place of sacrifice, Abraham is granted a clear vision of his future grandson, Jacob, the predestined son of Isaac. Abraham perceives the important role that Jacob will play in the world; nonetheless, he remains true to his commitment to sacrifice his son, despite his compelling vision. Abraham surrenders total control, placing all his trust in the Creator's words.

Relevance

Man's nature is to succumb to the temptations of the material world, to give in to the lure of immediate gratification at the expense of long-term fulfillment. The wisdom and strength to place our trust in the spiritual laws of life and relinquish control to the Creator are granted to our soul. This portion allows the radiance of the Creator to enlighten and direct us along the darkened corridors of life.
